Damodar temple Zambaulim -Goa

Damodar temple, belonging to GSB community (Gowda Saraswath Brahmins), is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated in Zambaulim, 22kms from Madgaon. It is situated on the banks of  river Kushavati . The holy water of the river is believed to cure skin diseases.

There is also an idol of Lakshmi Narayana inside the sanctum. There are shrines for  Goddess Chamundeshwari  and  Siva  on either side of the main temple.

The enchanting idol of Lord Siva was consecrated at the present site after the Portuguese demolished  the original temple  in 1567. Both Christians and Hindus here rever Lord Damodar.

Accommodation facilities are available in the temple complex for the community members.

so exploration is now at Goa, that is great. Damodar temple looks nice with its construction. What was the prasad distributed in the temple? here in kerala it is chandanam for normal devotees and prasadam as aval and malar for people who pay cash as dakshina :)

In north we used to get kalkandam and boondi irrespective of whether a devotee provides dakshina.

Insignia, It is a Shiva temple. But there is a deity of Vishnu inside sanctum of Lord Lakshmi Narayana. A mix of both Shiva - Vishnu cult. Actually Damodar is Krishna's name . I do not know how Shiva is known by that name.

Sorry Chitra, I have been caught up with other matters. This is an interesting temple.

Do Christians visit the temple? Do they pray there or just visit? Are these the local villagers?

Interesting Temple Chitra.. an example of religious harmony ...points out the truth that Forms are many, But God is one..!

chitra said...

Archana, It is ok. Even i was away on tour.

The God here is worshiped by the Christians too. That is what the locals told me.

chitra said...

Sridharan, All the different religions are created by man only. If he can grow above this, it is really great.
