Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwar temple is just 3 Kms from Mangalore city railway station. The presiding deity is Siva and this idol was consecrated by Sri Narayana Guru, a saint and social reformer belonging to Kerala in 1912. The temple was constructed mainly for the Billava community who were denied entry to other temples in those days. There are also sub shrines for Krishna, Ganapathi, Subramanya, Durga, Anna Poorneshwari, Hanuman, Saneeshwara and Navagrahas here. The temple was renovated few years back. Marble is used extensively in this temple and is maintained very well. In summer to help the devotees ,carpets are laid out on the walk way . The ceiling of each shrine is embellished with minute carvings.

Chitra,
Beautiful temple and very good description..short but yet detailed.
I loved the pictures. They brought out the temple in all its beauty especially the intricate carvings on the ceiling. You have done an admirable job.
Raji,
Great Raji. A Bharatanayam performance from you .You must have become nostalgic seeing my post. I heard that late Prime Minster inaugurated the temple. Did you perform during that time?
aipi,
Welcome and thanks for your comment.Keep visiting.
A,
thanks.I do not like to give long descriptions as there are so many web sites providing the same. I respect valuable time and interest of my friends who read my posts. My pictures also speak a lot, is it not?
KP,
I am so happy you liked the pictures. I also got mesmersied when I saw the ornamental ceiling.
The gold on the roof, the elephants and that diya all of them are so beautiful.
Mridula,Thanks.
I love this temple for its vastness, the elephants and the kalash-well. And also bcos its quite near my place;) This temple will have alight show on weekends which kids enjoy a lot
I love the intricate carvings on the ceiling - are they gold plated?
Considering that this temple was built for a community which didn't have entry in other temples, it has done quite well, pointing towards the prosperity of the community.
Is it still maintained by the same community?
Bhagyareema,
You must be happy to see this post as you can relate to this temple very well.Didn't know about the light show.
Archana
Not gold plated .It's the paint I think or may be some other material. Many members of the community are well known figures and are rubbing shoulder with the elite and rich of the society now.It is still maintained by the same community. Ex central finance minister Janardhan Poojary initiated the work and locals say the temple belongs to him.It is only hearsay.
How beautiful. Can I ask about the elephants? They look to be life-size, are they?
Beautiful temple. Your pictures lets us see things we normally miss.

Nice Chitra. It is very informative. The Gopuram carvings are nice. All photographs are good.
Prabakka thank you so much.
Chitra your blog speaks through your pictures. Didn't the teachers tell us while at school " A good picture can replace 1000 words..."
