Tiruvalanchuzhi . Kumbakonam

Very ancient temple complex situated in calm sylvan surroundings.
This temple complex houses shrines for Lord Shiva and Vinayagar.
Shiva here is known as Valanchuzhi Nathar and is swaymbumurthy. Amman here is Periya Nayagi and her shrine is near to Lord Shiva's.
There is also a shrine for Kaliamman here outside the main shrine.
This temple  is more popular  for the shrine for Swetha Vinayagar or Vellai Vinyagar.

The  idol of Lord Ganesha  is very small and is believed to be made by the Gods from the foam of the milky ocean when they were performing the churning of sea to obtain nectar.
This temple is very near to Swami malai - One of the Arupadai Veedu of Lord Muruga.
The intricate work on the pillars and corridors are magnificent.
